In bizarre circumstances the Alaskan State Pink Salmon Record was broken twice in the SAME day. A week or so ago fisherman Thomas Salas was working the Kenai River near Big Eddy in Soldotna and nailed a massive Pink Salmon. The next morning he took the fish to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office in Soldotna who confirmed the 28.5-inch long fish weighed 12 pounds, 13 ounces and that it claimed the record by 4 ounces.
Only 3 hours later though on the same stretch of river Robert Dubar a fisherman from Nevada landed a enormous Pink Salmon who after thinking it was a log, dragged it in after a big fight. After being convinced to get it weighed, Dubar took the big fish to the same local office who then confirmed that in fact this fish was the new State Record going 13 pounds, 10.6 ounces and 32 inches long. What a day on the river, with 2 records being broken in a matter of hours.
