Capt. Kenny Koci was out trolling the waters off Hatteras in North Carolina late last year when the thought what looked like was a decent blue marlin smashed one of the baits he had out. Neil Manning was the lucky fisherman who took up the fight.
After a decent fight Neil landed the marlin and upon closer inspection Capt. Koci realised that the marlin was in fact a white marlin. After a quick call in they discovered the current state record for a white marlin was 118 pounds caught by Ethel Cootes in 1976 and Koci was pumped this fish was bigger. Indeed on weigh in the white marlin went 138 pounds and this week the local authorities certified the catch as the current state record.
